QRCS Marks International Youth Day

Together with other Qatari institutions, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrated the International Youth Day 2016, which is marked by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement every year on 12 August. The theme of this year's celebrations was: "The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production". Social, Educational Events for Volunteers Together with other Qatari institutions, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrated the International Youth Day 2016, which is marked by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement every year on 12 August. The theme of this year's celebrations was: "The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production". The celebrations focused on the following: 1. QRCS's awareness, social responsibility, and volunteerism activities; 2. Promotion of volunteerism among the youth; 3. The role of the youth in comprehensive development; 4. Engagement of volunteers in an enriching seminar; 5. Community awareness of the risks of heat strike; and 6. Distribution of safety and security publications and sun protection items. Over a week, QRCS held several educational, cultural, and voluntary events, including the distribution of water bottles and caps to expatriate workers in Al-Wakrah, Al-Wekeer, Old Slata, Corniche, Old Al-Ghanem, and other areas. In cooperation with the International Relations Division, the Volunteers Division organized an informative lecture on the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and protections of prisoners of war. Delivered by Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, IHL expert and head of QRCS International Relations Division, the lecture was attended by 35 promising Qatari volunteers. The third event involved a two-day recreational camping activity for outstanding volunteers at Al-Murjan Resort in Al-Khor, under the supervision of trainer Hassan Al-Sayed. The celebrations of the International Youth Day 2016 were concluded with a youth forum under the theme of "Volunteerism, Sustainable Development, and Role of Social Media". The forum was attended by several public figures, including Fahad Mohamed Al-Nuaimi, QRCS Executive Director; Issa Al Ishaq, Director of QRCS Communications Department; media celebrities Mohamed Al-Bishri and Hassan Al-Saai; Dr. Haya Al-Madadi, General Manager of Al-Fursan Center for Training and Consultations; Azza Salah Al-Din, Founder and Executive Director of SkyClimbers initiative (sponsor); and representatives of Community Police, Social Development Center, and Qatar University. Following the forum, a training workshop was held on volunteer team building and management. The trainer Hassan Al-Sayed explained the importance of leadership, planning, and team spirit. The session also involved practice of role playing and teamwork.
