QRCS, Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar Complete 5th 'Together for Benevolence' Program

3/16/2019

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has recently concluded the fifth edition of 'Together for Benevolence', an annual charitable giving program for expatriate workers in Qatar. Since its launch in 2014, the program has been sponsored exclusively by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company Qatar LLC (Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar), a subsidiary of one of the world’s top petrochemical producers. This year, winterization kits were distributed to a total of 3,088 construction workers at worksites. Each kit contained basic supplies needed by workers in the winter, including gloves, caps, socks, scarves, and jackets. Inspired by QRCS's institutional values and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the program was addressed to all eligible workers, without discrimination based on faith, language, or ethnicity. It was closely coordinated with the target organizations: Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), and Al-Wakrah Municipality. Over two weeks, QR 463,226 worth of winterization kits were distributed at the following locations: HMC’s new Trauma and Emergency Department building (1,250 beneficiaries), a mass housing complex for Al-Wakrah municipality workers (450), the Al-Shamal Hospital (988), and Al-Bandar at Doha Corniche (400). QRCS’s volunteers played a key role in making this program a success by contributing at each of the distribution sites. The number of volunteers at each site was: 13, 9, 10, and 18, respectively. In his remarks, Ahmed Ali Al-Khulaifi, Head of Volunteers Section, QRCS, said, “The aim of this project is to promote human solidarity and boost morale among expatriate workers, who are one of our top priorities in Qatar. We always seek to make a real difference in the lives of those who build the modern Qatar we love." He appreciated the support given by Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar to the program over its five years of success. This, he pointed out, was a clear token of belief in partnership and corporate social responsibility towards social causes. Abdullah Hamed Al-Mulla, Director of Communication, QRCS, attended one of the distributions together with officials of Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar and their families. “Throughout its five-year history, ‘Together for Benevolence’ has proved one of QRCS’s major sustainable development programs,” said Mr. Al-Mulla. “Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar and QRCS share the same endeavor of helping the vulnerable everywhere.” “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to invest in the community here through our work with QRCS,” said Mitchell P. Eichelberger, President, Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar. “Working side-by-side with other QRCS volunteers to distribute these winterization kits is a humbling and rewarding experience for us”.
