QRCS HMC treat chronic diseases

Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) Patient Support Fund has continued to cover the costs of treatment for poor patients. Last week, 124 patients with chronic diseases received the much-needed treatment, to avoid any serious health complications in case of delay These included follow-up patients with heart disease, kidney failure, cancer, rheumatism, and autoimmune disorders. All the necessary precautions were strictly taken to prevent Coronavirus infection risks. This year, the Fund is planned to reach out to 2,000 patients, in addition to providing social health support and other charitable services for up to 12,000 persons, with a total budget of QR 11,230,000. Over the past year, 1,605 poor patients were covered, 9,000 persons received social health support, and 3,395 persons benefited from the Cordiality Iftar implemented at hospitals during the holy month of Ramadan. Under the bilateral strategic partnership, the Fund works in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). Other partners include AbbVie Biopharmaceuticals GmbH, Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation (QCOT), HMC Department of Gastroenterology, and Roche (a Swiss-based health care company). The Patient Support Fund is a humanitarian program that addresses the needs of poor patients whose lives are badly affected by health problems. By providing the necessary medications and medical services, it helps to promote solidarity and compassion among the rich and the poor, with no discrimination on the basis of color, race, or religion. Funded mainly from the revenue of charity paid by individual and institutional donors in Qatar, it ultimately seeks to enhance public health in Qatar, in light of the national health strategies, towards the human development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
