Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, Secretary-General of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), has met a high-profile delegation from the Embassy of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The delegation comprised H.E. Giuseppe Angelo Yoffreda Yorio, Ambassador, Fatima Majzoub, Assistant Ambassador, and Andres Eloy Marquez Picon, First Secretary. The meeting was attended by Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law, Adel Al-Baker, Director of the Office of President, and Nagla Al-Hajj, Head of International Development. Mr. Al-Hammadi welcomed the guests and emphasized the strong political, economic, and humanitarian relations between Qatar and Venezuela. He also highlighted the close communication between QRCS and the Venezuelan Red Cross in international conferences, under the umbrella of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. He revealed a plan to visit several countries in South America, including Venezuela, where a memorandum of understanding (MoU) may be signed between QRCS and the Venezuelan Red Cross to establish bilateral humanitarian cooperation, building on the excellent relations between the two countries. Dr. Oussedik described the Qatar-Venezuela relations as “historical and not recent”. QRCS advocated Venezuela’s nominee for the office of Deputy President of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Ms. Al-Hajj presented QRCS’s support to the Venezuelan Red Cross, among 22 National Societies that received humanitarian support to fight COVID-19. Mr. Yorio was happy for being at QRCS to step up mutual cooperation against the COVID-19 pandemic. “The Government of Qatar has given a lot to the world, out of human solidarity,” he said. “It is something to be respected and admired”. He promised to offer all facilitations to QRCS’s COVID-19 control project in Venezuela. “Despite the distance, the hearts of Venezuelan and Qatari people are close,” Mr. Yorio concluded.
