The Qatar Red Crescent started its work in Bangladesh since the start of the last crisis of the Rohingya in August 2017, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya people to Bangladesh. The relief team of the Qatar Red Crescent, which arrived in Bangladesh in September 2017, executed many emergency relief interventions for refugees who fled Myanmar, such as the distribution of food packages, personal hygiene toolkits and shelter materials, as well as the operation of two mobile medical clinics inside the camps and the creation of public toilets. This was followed by the establishment of the Mission’s office in the Cox-Pazar area where the Rohingya refugee camps are located. Ever since, the Mission continues to provide emergency assistance to Rohingya refugees in various sectors such as health, food security, materials, water and sanitation.

The importance of the Qatar Red Crescent’s interventions in Bangladesh resides in the existence of the refugee crisis of the Rohingya people, categorized as the most persecuted minority in the world according to the United Nations, in addition to the extreme poverty that Bangladesh’s population suffers from and the poor health services.
