Workers' Health Centers

Under the strategic partnership with Qatar's Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), the Medical Affairs Division at Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) provides high-quality primary health care services for unmarried male expatriate workers — commonly known as craft and manual workers. In the end of 2010, QRCS and MOPH signed a cooperation agreement to operate health centers in the areas of expatriate communities.

Since their creation, the Workers' Health Centers have provided top-quality health care for male expatriate workers, special care for the patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, and ongoing health education for the patients to improve public health and raise awareness of workplace hazards.

The centers also monitor communicable diseases among expatriate workers, apply measures to prevent epidemic outbreaks, take necessary precautions, report to government health authorities, and provide timely medical care.

Canada Accreditation

In April 2023, QRCS's Medical Affairs Division obtained the platinum-level accreditation from Accreditation Canada, after passing the final survey at the four Workers' Health Centers, with 891 criteria under nine standards successfully met. Preparations are in progress to fulfil 20 additional criteria, which will make QRCS eligible for the diamond-level accreditation.

Accreditation Cycle

In October 2021, QRCS's teams started the journey to accreditation with a readiness assessment, in which the score was 48.9%. Building on the initial results, they worked on all the requirements until June 2022, when a simulated survey was conducted, with a score of 86.1%. In the final survey, conducted by Accreditation Canada surveyors in March 2023, QRCS got a score of 97.8%, all with no related overtime and no external consultation.

The standards scores were as follows: Laboratory (100%), Dental (100%), Pharmacy (100%), Radiology (96.7%), Infection Control (98.7%), Leadership (95.5%), Governance (92), Primacy Care (98.6%), Service Excellence (100%), Quality (100%), Finance (100%), Human Resources (100%), IT (100%), Engineering (100%), Biomedical Devices (100%), and Emergency Preparedness (100%).

The critical success factors behind this success included leadership support, strategic preparation, teamwork, team structure, accountability, and competency. In 2022, QRCS received ISO 9001:2015 in quality management system (QMS). Currently, procedures and policies guides are being updated for all QRCS's divisions, departments, and activities, in order to ensure better quality, up to the highest standards of governance, efficiency, and stewardship​
