A high-profile delegation of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) visited Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) headquarters to explore opportunities of further cooperation and discuss issues of common concern. The MSF delegation comprised Dr. Meguerditch Terzian, President, and Mohamed Bali, Executive Director, UAE Regional Office. They were received by Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Nuaimi, Executive Director, Issa Al Ishaq, Director of Communications, and Aiham Al-Sukhni, Head of Disaster Management. Mr. Al-Nuaimi welcomed the guests and gave an overview of QRCS's relief and development interventions done jointly with MSF in several countries like Syria and Iraq. The talks also covered potential ways to strengthen the partnership among the two organizations worldwide. A special focus was given to the latest updates of humanitarian situation in Syria and Iraq, and how to improve it by meeting the most stressing needs of conflict-affected communities, utilizing QRCS's work on the ground in Syria and Somalia. QRCS has already worked with MSF – Holland under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to open a pediatric department at QRCS's surgical hospital in Tell Abyad, Syria. The facility provided secondary health care services, integrated EPI services, and medications for children aged 1-15 years. The most recent bilateral MoU, signed in April 2016, involved the referral of Syrian and Jordanian diabetic patients with diabetic retinopathy and other ophthalmological complications for screening and treatment at the non-communicable disease project run by MSF – Holland in Irbid, Jordan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH). Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. Its actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.
