QRCS to distribute diverse food, social welfare assistance in Ramadan

4/23/2020

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated a series of charitable projects for the benefit of tens of thousands of vulnerable families and groups in Qatar, under its Ramadan Campaign 1441 A.H. titled “It Is Better and Greater in Reward”. This year, the Ramadan Iftar project will be limited to food baskets, as all Ramadan Iftar tents were cancelled to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. A total of 20,000 food baskets will be distributed to meet the needs of the poor families over the holy month of Ramadan. It is meant to make them happy and satisfied in these blessed days, as part of QRCS’s mission of reaching out to the vulnerable everywhere. Another project is to help the poor families and expatriate workers who were affected negatively by the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent lockdown. There will be distributed 6,000 and 1,500 baskets to the families and workers, respectively. The Double Reward project allows each donor to purchase a food basket and then donate it to a poor person. Then, part of the value of the basket will be given to another poor beneficiary. Ultimately, more will benefit from the donation, and the donor will get more joy of giving and more divine reward. Regarding how this food assistance will be delivered, Muna Fadhel Al-Sulaiti, Executive Director of QRCS’s Volunteering and Local Development Division, explained. “Using modern technology, a first-of-its-kind computerized database of the beneficiaries was created and shared with our partner, LuLu Hypermarket, where the beneficiaries can collect their respective food baskets at nine branches across the country upon presenting their personal IDs”. “With this method, over 27,500 food baskets would be distributed to the needy, while ensuring maximum safety,” said Ms. Al-Sulaiti. “Those who need assistance can contact us via the hotline (16002) during weekdays, 8:00-11:00 a.m.” She thanked Lulu Hypermarket for their effective cooperation with QRCS, under their bilateral partnership agreement and the principle of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Other projects to be implemented during Ramadan include: 1.         Zakat-ul-Fitr: Food baskets for 1,250 beneficiaries; 2.          Ramadan Provisions: Food vouchers for 750 beneficiaries; 3.         Eid Clothing: Purchase of Eid clothes for 500 children; and 4.         This Is My Wish: Gifts and toys for sick children.
