QRCS Marks Breast Cancer Awareness Day

November 5th, 2017 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrated the Breast Cancer Awareness Day, in conclusion of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October. November 5th, 2017 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrated the Breast Cancer Awareness Day, in conclusion of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, marked in countries across the world every October. Under the theme of "Early Detection Makes a Difference", the event was organized in partnership with the Algerian Community League in Qatar, and Golden Tulip Hotel Doha. The attendance included Dr. Aisha Youssef Al-Mannai, Vice-President, QRCS, Noura Rashid Al-Dosari, Director of Volunteering and Local Development, QRCS, Ahmed Ali Al-Khulaifi, Head of General Resource Mobilization, QRCS, Abdel-Qadir Arada, Secretary of the Algerian Community League in Qatar, Dr. Maryam Dahina, Head of Women and Children Committee, the Algerian Community League in Qatar, Ms. Amina Sabaa, the wife of H.E. Ambassador of Algeria to Qatar, Ms. Aziza Gharbi, representative of Golden Tulip, and many community ladies interested in breast cancer awareness and control. Dr. Al-Mannai said, "The purpose of this day is to bring the disease into focus, mobilize resources for early detection, provide care and treatment. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women around the world". One of QRCS's major mandates, she added, is health care, which includes ambulatory, treatment, preventive, and awareness services. QRCS's Patient Support Fund covers the cost of treatment and surgery for poor patients, in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). "Women are a top priority in QRCS's development strategy, benefiting from both general and women-specific projects, which address their needs in socioeconomic empowerment, parenting education, professional qualification, and entrepreneurship. This event is a further step towards better controlled breast cancer. The outcomes are happier and healthier women," Dr. Al-Mannai stated.   Mr. Arada remarked that the Breast Cancer Awareness Day is one item on the agenda of the Algerian Community League in Qatar, which pursues cultural, historical, scientific, sports, and health care engagement and partnerships with Qatari initiatives, utilizing the community's extraordinary and diverse talent. "The Algerian Community League in Qatar is a nascent association. We are proud of working with the leading QRCS, which welcomed and sponsored our initiative. Thanks go also to the newly opened Golden Tulip Hotel, which believes in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community service," he noted. After that, there was a workshop and panel discussions about cancer, highlighting theoretical and practical precautions to minimize the risks. QRCS honored the Algerian Community League in Qatar and Golden Tulip for their contributions to the event. The Algerian Community League in Qatar also recognized QRCS's sponsorship of the initiative.
