As it turns 40, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is holding a grand celebration today, Tuesday, at Katara Cultural Village, with a VIP attendance of government officials, social figures, business leaders, senior volunteers, and representatives of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Established in March 1978, QRCS boasts a track record of achievements, lessons learnt, and milestones. These successes have shaped the arena of charitable and social work in Qatar, as well as enriched the country's bright image as a major humanitarian player around the world. The event will be attended by Dr. Mohamed bin Ghanem Al-Ali Al-Maadheed, President, Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, Secretary-General, board members, directors of divisions, managers of medical facilities, staff, and volunteers. A special honoring ceremony will see the chief donors and contributors to the organization recognized, including government authorities, NGOs, corporations, and the media. On the sidelines of the 40th anniversary, a public exhibition will be held at the Katara Corniche to give a timeline narration of QRCS's history. It is opening its doors to the public from Tuesday evening till Friday March 24th. At the exhibition, there will be activities for kids, real displays (shelter tents – field hospital – ambulance vehicles), and presentation to diverse volunteering opportunities. Being Qatar's first humanitarian organization ever, QRCS became a pioneer in its vision, principles, and efforts. Now, it serves as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar in its humanitarian policies both locally and internationally. Also, it has become a role model for many NGOs and humanitarian service providers, which follow its strategies and operations. In 1981, QRCS became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). In this capacity, QRCS has access to the zones affected by disasters, conflict, or economic challenges. Over four decades, QRCS managed to establish its reputation in the fields of relief, development, and humanitarian advocacy/diplomacy. In all of this, QRCS is inspired by its strategic slogan "Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity".
