QRCS, Civil Defense Promote Fire Safety Awareness

March 26th, 2017 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) and the Civil Defense Department held a lecture at Ebla International School (EIS) about safety and security in fire emergencies. March 26th, 2017 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) and the Civil Defense Department held a lecture at Ebla International School (EIS) about safety and security in fire emergencies. The lecture was attended by 55 secondary students and eight teachers and administrative staff. It was instructed by Dr. Ahmed Idlibi, head of health education, QRCS, Khalil Rashid Al-Nuaimi, lecturer at Media and Preventive Education, Civil Defense, and Dr. Yousra Shumaita, doctor at EIS. The students were introduced to QRCS and Civil Defense, their mission and community services, particularly for schoolchildren. Mr. Al-Nuaimi explained the right steps of reporting a fire, including information about the detailed address and the situation. He pointed out the basics of self-protection and rescue of others. The students and teachers were encouraged to utilize their experience in life saving and fire prevention. They learnt about the types and usage of fire extinguishers. Dr. Idlibi gave an overview of different degrees of burn and how to perform first aid for each type. He corrected some common wrong practices in relation to dealing with burns. As for serious injuries, the victim's body should be covered for protection against contamination. Ambulance medical help should be called immediately. A question-and-answer session followed, which should how the students were actively engaged in and benefited from the lecture. The academic manager of EIS thanked QRCS and Civil Defense for their community awareness-raising efforts, as well as their cooperation with the school in this workshop. He called for a standing relationship plan under QRCS School Program.
