QRCS Participates in School Safety & Security Event
Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has participated in the second safety and security forum held by two independent schools, as part of its efforts to promote health education and safe conduct culture among society members. First aid courses were delivered at Abdul-Rahman bin Jassim Preparatory School for Boys (Doha) and Saud bin Abdul-Rahman Model School for Boys (Al-Wakra), for the benefit of 79 teachers, administrative staff, parents, and guests from other schools. The event was supported by Woqod (Saud bin Abdul-Rahman School's sponsor), Civil Defense, Traffic Department, and Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Taken by the management of Abdul-Rahman bin Jassim School, this initiative reflected their belief in safety and security as crucial to the education of a generation well prepared for emergencies and lifesaving. All the participants actively took part in the discussions and practice, which helped achieve the goals of raising public awareness about safety and security, public health, safe conduct, first aid skills, and other lifesaving concepts. During the courses, the trainees were introduced to QRCS's principles and activities locally and internationally, under the slogan of 'Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity'. Then, the instructors gave a detailed demonstration of the first aid procedure for injuries that may occur at school or on the bus, as well as the role of everyone to take care of the case at hand till the arrival of medical assistance. The sessions also explained the importance of preparedness for dealing with situations that require first aid intervention, in addition to the contents, accessible storage, maintenance, labeling, and expiry of first-aid kit. Another topic covered by the sessions was taking the right steps to ensure the quick arrival of ambulance emergency medical team, as follows: (1) call the emergency number (999), (2) talk calmly with the call taker, (3) tell your name and number, (4) describe the case accurately, (5) tell in detail the address, and (6) double-check the reported information before ending the call. In the practical part of the sessions, the attendees received training in how to deal properly with fainting cases, including the recovery position and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using training patient care manikins. Finally, a special focus was given to specific emergencies like choking, wounds, burns, nosebleed, fractures, sprains, accidents, eye injuries, and broken teeth. First-aid booklets and fliers were handed out to the group. In the end of the successful event, Youssef Abdullah Al-Abdullah thanked all the participating organizations, including QRCS, and gave their representatives honorary shields and certificates of appreciation in recognition of their valuable contributions.
