Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are working together on a health care project for refugees in Sana’a, Yemen, with a total budget of $739,162. A joint delegation has visited the Al-Thawra Modern General Hospital, Al-Jumhoori Hospital, and National Center of Public Health to hand over medical equipment for Coronavirus testing, at a total cost of $26,760. During the meeting, the delegation vowed to continue to provide vital health care services for the Somali refugees and local community of Amanat Al-Asimah. They stressed the importance of cooperation to reassure the public, who are facing the pressure of disease and lack of resources to fight the pandemic. Dr. Abdul-Lateef Abo Talib, General Manager of the Al-Thawra General Hospital, said the new equipment would be of great help for the hospital, particularly in relation to the blood bank, renal disease, hematology, total protein tests, and, most importantly, Coronavirus tests. Dr. Abdul-Ilah Al-Harazi, General Manager of the National Center of Public Health, welcomed these timely medical supplies. “The results are promising,” said Dr. Al-Harazi. “All the swabs taken to date have been negative. The quick results help to make many swabs in a short time”. Under the same project, QRCS is providing medications on a monthly basis for two health centers, where integrated health services are provided, including free-of-charge medicines and referrals for advanced treatment and surgical services at hospitals. QRCS’s health education teams are deployed to raise awareness among the public regarding how to protect themselves against Coronavirus infection. More hospitals and health centers are planned to receive medical equipment and solutions under the UNHCR-funded project.
